Cycling insights from The Netherlands

Hi folks, on Thursday 12th September, I had the privilege of travelling on a four-day cycle tour planning visit to Holland. Travelling with me was Rohan Vanhorn, the newly appointed No Limits to Health International Tour Coordinator. Rohan already had extensive knowledge of living in Holland and it was on his advice that we explored Egmond Aan Zee and the surrounding areas of North Holland. We also had another reason for visiting Holland and that was to visit the Dutch Cycling Embassy to meet with manager, Shelley Bontje. In my role as bicycle mayor, I was keen to find out as much as I could about the world-renowned Dutch cycling culture and world-class cycling infrastructure. We were not to be disappointed. Before going further here’s a short clip of our travel to Eggmon Ann Zee via the Dutch Cycle Embassy in Utrecht, Holland.

Cycling insights froim Holland

Upon arrival to Schiphol Airport we travelled to the following locations using active travel modes of transport:

  • Amsterdam ( Train)

  • Utrecht (Train)

  • Heiloo (Train/Taxi)

  • Eggmond Binnen ( Ebike)

  • Eggmond Aan Zee (Ebike)

  • Bergen (Ebike)

  • Bergen Aan Zee (Ebike/Long Walk)

In short, we experienced an amazing time of cycling through what we both consider the best cycling infrasture and scenery to offer. The sand dunes of North Holland are definitely worth exploring as well as the fine beaches of Egmond Aan Zee and Bergen Aan Zee.
